TOM HAINS REVEALED
Behind Closed Doors caught
up with former Elvyn star Tommy Hains. Hainsy was once described as
looking like 'a quality footballer until he gets anywhere near a
football', and that couldn't be further from the truth, have you seen that
designer stubble!?! He reveals the highlights from his footballing career and his views on the
football world...

Can you tell me about your time at Loughborough, highlights and
lowlights...
I’ve experienced many of the highs and lows LSAFC has to offer the lows:
definitely being injured to often and losing the cup final in my first
year to notts 1sts with the 5’s… gutted! The highs coming back from torn
ankle ligaments and getting 3 MOM awards in a row before my ligaments gave
up again in last minute of 3rd game. This yr watching the 1st
teams road to BUSA glory (hopefully) has been an emotional rollercoaster
in itself! The biggest highlight has to be watching Barks every Wednesday
night in union!!!
Can you shed any light on your footy career outside of Loughborough?
I started my footballing career in the youth setup of Carmarthen Town AFC
where Mark Delaney used to apply his trade, had a brief spell with Swansea
city cygnets. Went on to join Johnstown AFC at the age of 16 where we won
the league in my first year with the 1st team. Joined Shepshed
Dynamo in Dr Martens league and played there during my 2nd year
at uni, where we beat Birmingham city academy u20’s with our under 20’s
even better when you’re a villa fan….
What is the highest achievement in your career so far?
Playing for Loughborough Students Football Club obviously.
And which is
your most memorable game for Loughborough?
Its got to
be my first game having torn the ligaments in my knee the previous season
and my first game back was for Loughborough 5ths. Pottsy brought me on
after 60 minutes and my folks were there to watch. It all went down hill
from there tore the ligaments in my ankle in the next game before half
time.
Who is your best friend(s) in LSAFC (not including Nick Drew)?
Probably have to say Jack Harrison, Jono Cooper but I’d like to say
they are all my friends in LSAFC ha ha ha

Have you any
funny tales that you can tell us?
Most of 102 Derby Road and a single female on a certain players birthday
you’ll have to ask them for the rest.
Which team do you support?
Aston Villa and Real Madrid
Who is your
childhood hero and why?
Guti and Becks think it must be the hair!
What three
items would you take to a desert island and why?
Beer, Kate
Beckinsdale and a football the three essentials in life: a woman, beer and
football
Are there any youngsters we should look out for coming through the ranks?
Little Scott Turner in the 5’s has got great feet in the Cristiano Ronaldo
mould, and like Ronaldo needs to learn when to pass the ball (that’s for
stitching me up at the ball) . But the more time you spend at Loughborough
the better you become the prime example 1st team hero this year
Dolly!
Who has the
most bant in the whole club?
Barks
simple as, Windy has a cheeky bit of banter, subtle but always good and
the tries hard award goes to……. Kettle
Lastly, what does the future hold for your football career? Do you have a
message for the lads at LSAFC?
My football career is to move to
London currently holding talks with Greenwich Borough but we’ll see. Just
wanna say a massive thank you to all the lads in the club I have had a
quality year being involved with the club. Thank you to Dolly for all the
goals all the way to the final what a day! Good luck to Ketts and Liam for
the joint leadership of the club and hopefully 4 BUSA’s in a row and good
luck to all the squads hopefully another successful season. Stay classy
LSAFC and thanks for stopping bye, but mainly stay classy
A huge thanks to Hainsy for this article,
well appreciated fella.
