SEAN SWEENEY REVEALED

Behind Closed Doors caught up with the Guv'nor for an insight into the life of the classy centre-back. He reveals the highlights from his footballing career and his views on the football world...

Can you tell me about your time at Loughborough, highlights and lowlights...
Highlights definitely include all the banter that flows round the club how competitive each team is against one another! Main highlight includes winning the trophy at the end of the season – the lowlight being my injury half way through the season and not being back in time to play!

Sweenz! Can you shed any light on your footy career outside of Loughborough?

Played for Croydon ‘ghetto’ FC from when I was 11 up until 16 and then played for Waltham and Hersham in the Ryman League up until i managed to continuously dislocate my shoulder from 18 onwards!

What is the highest achievement in your career so far?
Captaining Croydon FC to our league cup final and also playing my part in winning some silverware for the 6th team this year! Id like to think I was an influential team member up until I was injured and beyond! Vocally if nothing else!

And which is your most memorable game for Loughborough?
Has to be the game I got injured in that sticks out. Manchester Met 3’s at home on Paddock, making a break forward as usual from defence and having my ankle chopped by one of their northerners! I’ve never really had a long term injury and it spoilt the rest of my season with regards to my playing involvement.

Who is your best friend in LSAFC (not including Nick Drew)?

Would have to say my buddy Russell Dale (Muscle Pale). Lived next door to him all year in Faraday, Block 8 and although I had to get him up and out on time for most 7am training sessions we’ve both had a good laugh and a good stint in the uni squad this year!

Have you any funny tales that you can tell us?

Smithy on Elvyn Pitches... anyone interested in seeing photos, let me know!

Which team do you support?

The Glorious Gunners – THE Arsenal!

Who is your childhood hero and why?

Ian Wright – A true legend and entertainer and such a natural in front of goal! My idle when I played up front at a young age! How did I ever end up at centre back!
Sweenz and Russ!

What three items would you take to a desert island and why?
A football, Denise Van Outen and a television – when Denise becomes annoying (standard procedure) you can have a knock about on the beach until the footy comes on the tele!

Are there any youngsters we should look out for coming through the ranks?
Dunno haven’t seen the ability of next years freshers yet! Ciaran Flanagan though, our skipper this year is definitely on his way up and Bruce our keeper saved our season more then once this year!

Who has the most bant in the whole club?
The least has to be Schmidt, would be a good lad if he wasn’t joined at the hip with his bird! Barks is the loudest geezer I have ever met though! His voice is definitely gonna be missed next year!

What’s your preference between these street cred benchmarks:

Lost or Prison Break? Lost

Pat Butcher or Pauline Fowler? Sonia Jackson

Prada shoes or my granddad sandles? Granddad’s Nike Air Jerusalem definitely!
Peter Crouch or Michael Owen? Owen

Russ Noble or Andy Noble? Nobody!

Pint or girlie bottle? Pint

Eddie Izzard or Jimmy Carr? Carr – No room for lady boys on this earth (Gards take note!)

Lastly, what does the future hold for your football career? Do you have a message for the lads at LSAFC?
Well next year I'll be playing for my brothers team Grunwald FC back home until I have my shoulder operated on again! -  a step down in ability but plenty more drinking sessions ahead! Hope to be fully fit for involvement in my final year at Loughborough after my placement and hope to be rising up the ranks to more success! Just want to pass on all my luck to the boys next year in every team and hope that Loughborough continues to ‘walk on water’!

A huge thanks to Sweenz for this article and also for being a massive help to me this year, it's appreciated.
