JASON STOCK REVEALED

Behind Closed Doors caught up with first team centre-half Stocky for an insight into the life of the tall defender. He reveals the highlights from his footballing career and his views on the football world...

Can you tell me about your time at Loughborough, highlights and lowlights... what squads you are in etc?
I’ve had a varied Loughborough career sampling a bit of every manager on my way. My highlight has to be getting to the final at Bramell Land. One incident sticks out in my mind as being a massive lowlight, last years semi-finals against Bath. Most goals I’ve ever scored in one game!

Stocky with Liam & SebCan you shed any light on your footy career outside of Loughborough?
I used to be a decent player having a YT at Southampton from U13 to U16. After that two years of college and county football brought me to uni where I thought there would be a chance of a career resurgence. Or not.

What is the highest achievement in your career so far?
My greatest achievement was playing in a packed FNB stadium (South Africa’s Wembley) for South Africa U12 in a curtain raiser for a South Africa vs Brazil game. That was amazing, just a pity I got nutmeged and everyone saw it.

And which is your most memorable game for Loughborough?
Probably the Bath game for all the wrong reasons, but the Leeds game has to be there as well, just because of that feeling of winning on penalties.

Who was your best friend in LSAFC (Not including Nick Drew)?
I’d have to say my housemates, even though one is only a pretend footballer.

Have you any funny tales that you can tell us?
The nite before and day of my first ever Loughborough game was pretty memorable as it involved my entire bedroom being moved into the communal bathroom. Never trust Spaniard with your keys. Stocky in action

Which team do you support?

The only real team on the South coast, Southampton

Who is your childhood hero and why?
I’ve always liked Maldini for his solid defensive play, but in recent years I’ve developed a real love for John Terry because he is superb and has a magnetic head which attracts the football.

How do you think England will fair in the world cup this summer? Who is your tip to win it?
If we play to our full potential we have a great chance of winning it. I wouldn’t put it past an outsider to do well either, possibly Holland.

Can you tell me something unusual about your past?
In South Africa at the tender age of about 8, whilst ‘gardening’ I had a run in with a snake. The result was a bloodied spade and a headless snake.

Who has the best and worst hair cuts at the club?
I have to say my new colour changing do has got to be in the mixer for worst. Best has got be Windy’s model like sweep.

What is currently playing on your CD player?
At the moment I’ve been listening to a lot of Lifehouse and Jose Gonzalez for the chilled acoustics.

Which three players have the most ‘chav’ status?
Telfs goes without saying, but other than that I’d have to say the Noble brothers love for all things Ben Sherman.

Lastly, what does the future hold for your football career? Do you have a message for the lads at LSAFC?
After uni I think my football career will take a rapid decline and I’ll be seen playing on a Sunday morning with a hangover.

A huge thanks to Stocky for this article.
