PETE SIMMONS REVEALED

Behind Closed Doors caught up with website guru Peteman for an insight into the life of the one time Cheddar Dynamos superstar. He reveals the highlights from his footballing career and his views on the football world...

Can you tell me about your time in football, highlights and lowlights...
The highlights: Playing wise I'd say representing the school of excellence for the south west as a keeper and playing in the Winscombe cup final for the Cheddar Dynamos. Media wise, I'd say working for the Bolton Wanderers press office, it shed a different light on football for me. As a fan it's an amazing experience.
The lowlights: David Kettle.Pure jokes... photo with Graham Beecroft on Talksport!

Can you shed any light on your media career outside of Loughborough?
I started through the official supporters website for Bolton and it all went from there really. I covered some games for BWFC, also writing a weekly column for their main site, their programme and magazine. Outside of that I've written for various national and local newspapers, as well as some football magazines like Total Football, I currently just write for Teletext.

What is the highest achievement in your career so far?
Without doubt playing at the Reebok Stadium for Bolton Wanderers Staff. I know it wasn't quite making it but for me to be playing in your own clubs shirt on their home pitch is a dream come true.

And which is your most memorable Loughborough game?
I'd say spending the day with the fourth team for their quarter final was an honour. They really had a team spirit going and were unlucky to go out. Also the first team semi final, it was good to be involved behind the scenes again... reminded me of how much I miss my playing days!

Who is your best friend in LSAFC (Not including Nick Drew)?
Jouni Ronkainen and Howard Bailey are two of my best friends here, both would do anything for you, well for me. The club have all been superb with me throughout to be honest. Barks, Windy, Adam, Kets, Miller, Gards, Jack Robinson, Mattar, Neil, Rhys, Sean and Russ have all been top drawer... there are a lot of people that have helped me out a lot maintaining this site and without their input it wouldn't happen.

Have you any funny tales that you can tell us?
No particular tales. Filming the CRIBS with Kets and Adam Steventon was well funny... I'm sure there will be some funny moments to come on that feature.

Which team do you support?
I'm a glory supporter... a Bolton Wanderers supporter through and through.

Who is your childhood hero and why?
As a lad growing up, ex-Welsh international and Bolton keeper David Felgate. In more recent times I'd say Claus Jensen. He was a role model both on and off the field, a gentleman, you won't find a more decent fella in the game.JP Pastmasters 2006 including Winny, Emmo, Woolgar + Youngy

How do you think England will fair in the world cup this summer? Who is your tip to win it?
We will do okay providing we keep our first eleven fit and take Nolan! I think though we will suffer a major injury and we just don't have enough depth to cope. I have a sneaky feeling for Argentina I'm afraid.

Can you tell me something unusual about your past?
I own a seat at Bury football club and I have an award named after me in JP! I also play Jazz flute.

Who has the best and worst hair cuts at the club?
Big fan of Andrew Noble's actually, and potentially Will 'Ivan Campo' Harrison. As for worst, wasn't a fan of Kets' died patch. It's a tough question and maybe I won't ask this one again... to be honest their are a lot of no-nonsense haircuts: Howard Bailey being a prime example.

What is currently playing on your CD player?
A cool up-and-coming band called CORD... they are set to release their first album soon I think. I was brought up on soul, but living next to Glastonbury I love a bit of rock/indie; Phonics, Ocean Colour Scene, Coldplay, the Features etc.

Which three players have the most ‘chav’ status?
Telfs, Simmo and Neil?? Discuss.

Lastly, what does the future hold for your football career? Do you have a message for the lads at LSAFC?
After suffering a career ending severe asthma attack, and broken boot lace, I'm afraid I'm confined to the 5aside courts. As for a message to the lads, thanks for everyone making me so welcome and can anyone with questionnaires still outstanding fill them in and return them... I thank you!

A huge thanks to me for this article.
