LIAM HOPKINS REVEALED
Behind Closed Doors caught up with first team superstar Liam for an insight into the life of ginger winger. He reveals the highlights from his time with us and his views on the football world...
Can you tell me about your time at Loughborough, highlights and
lowlights...
In my first year, currently playing in the first team. Highlights would
have to include notching the winning penalty in the Leeds met shootout and
watching Dolly destroy Heriott-Watt in the last five minutes. Lowlights
being this far north.
Can
you shed any light on your footy career outside of Loughborough?
At West Ham United as a schoolboy, then moved on to do my YTS at
Colchester United until I was 18, then signed for Chelmsford City who are
in the Ryman Premier division. Currently playing for Loughborough Dynamo.
What is the highest achievement in your career so far?
Playing in front of 5,000 people for the first game at Chelmsford
city’s new stadium. Or playing at Highbury in the FA youth cup.
And which is your most memorable game for Loughborough?
Its got to be the Leeds Met game, emotional roller coaster from start to
finish, and the team became much closer that day, which is probably why
steely ducked in the last minute to let them equalise, because he knew
that we would be better for it.
You scored the crucial penalty in the shootout against Leeds Met… what
is your tactics for taking penalties? Were you nervous and who was inline
behind you?
I can’t
reveal my tactics in case the MMU or the Bath boys are doing their
homework, but I’m so diverse it's untrue. Well Steely was next so we
probably would have lost, therefore had to score no room for nerves.
Who is your best friend in LSAFC (not including Nick Drew)?
Shouts got to go out to all my
dynamo boys Windy, Kets, Moyce to name but a few. Abs is my gym motivator
and Browny is my lecture buddy. But all the lads are quality even the
northerners
Have you any funny tales that you can tell us?
A recent one was when me, Windy and Abi were talking about Simmo’s
party and Abi said “yer safe I’m going, its on the 21st March
innit” he thought the 21 on the invite was the date and not his age! Windy
and me were in pieces.
Which team do you support?
Arsenal
Who is your
childhood hero and why?
Ian Wright because
his celebrations were ledge and I’m yet to score so watch out.
What three
items would you take to a desert island and why?
Factor 50
Sun cream because I would die without it. My girlfriend (in case she reads
this) and a pedalo for those lovely sunny afternoons.
Are there any
youngsters we should look out for coming through the ranks?
Well I heard a vicious rumour this is
only the first year Dolly has played for the 1’s so if we can find any
more Simon Dolemans then we are in business. Also brad has impressed me,
think he will do well next year.
Can you tell us
about your Prada shoes, are they as pointy as Kettle’s? I hear Browny
wants some?
They do in
fact retail at £150, Browny would love a pair but he just can’t afford
them. No comment on kettle’s footwear.
Who has the
most bant in the first team? Is Browny’s infamous thong all its cracked up
to be?
Well to be
honest the southern lads all have good banter but I'm not really sure
about the northern boys, they might do, can’t understand them half the
time. Someone said that the only reason why Browny wears thongs is
because he in fact has no banter and would struggle to make people laugh
any other way. There's no doubting he looks good though.
When people say
in football ‘play in the hole’, can you tell me where that is?
It’s when
you get a bit too tight to the man your marking!
How do you think England will fair in the world cup this summer? Who is
your tip to win it?
England will
win it and Sven will be a hero and stick two fingers up to the media.
Lastly, what does the future hold for your football career? Do you have
a message for the lads at LSAFC?
I hope to win 3 BUSA Gold medals at Loughborough, starting this year
with a win at Bramill Lane.
Note the reference to a pedalo shouldn't be
confused with the nickname for superman himself Henrik Pedersen of Bolton
Wanderers FC. A huge thanks to the Sherminator for this article.
