NICK DREW REVEALED
Behind Closed Doors
caught up with second team centre-half Nick Drew for his take on how
things are going. Everybody's best friend at the club, the ever popular
defender gives us an insight into his life,
his love affair with Wimbledon and his views on the
football world...
Can you tell me about your time at Loughborough, highlights and
lowlights...
Played my 1st year in the 3s but now in my second year captaining the 2nd
team. Highlights so far have to be making 15 new best mates in one game
and presenting Webby with the d*** of the season award at last years
presentation evening!! Lowlights include missing a penalty in the
knockouts in my first year (although I didn't technically miss because it
hit the post!!) and losing at Bath in the semi's last year.
Can you shed any light on your footy career outside of Loughborough?
Played for 3 years in the academy at Fulham, and played for and
captained my county (Surrey) for 4 years, after Fulham spent a couple of
seasons playing locally at Sutton Utd before coming here.
What is the highest achievement in your career so far?
Playing for Sutton Utd in the first ever match against AFC Wimbledon in
front of 5,000 people and beating them 4-0 was good fun!!! also captaining
my county was a good laugh, and also playing for the youth team at Sutton
and beating Cardiff City at their ground in the FA Youth Cup.
And which is your most memorable game for Loughborough?
The semi in Bath last year I suppose, it's memorable because we were
all so gutted after!! Also the 1sts final last year, was a quality game to
watch and was such a laugh in the stands!

Who is your best friend in LSAFC (not including yourself)?
Well, I think everyone knows that I have 15 new best mates at the
club.
Have you any funny tales that you can tell us?
Can't think of any funny tales I'm afraid, but the jokers have gotta
be both the Rhysys - Jones and Williams I'd say!!!
Which team do you support?
I was a Wimbledon fan but since they decided to change their name and
location I decided to be a glory hunter and I now favour Chelsea!!!
Who is your childhood hero and why?
Gotta be Vinnie Jones after supporting Wimbledon, although definitely
John Terry these days.
Are there any youngsters we should look out for coming through the ranks?
I reckon England have got their best chance for a long time at winning it
as long as Rooney and Terry stay fit, I reckon Ghana are gonna be the
surprise package though, watch this space!
How do you think England will fair in the world cup this summer? Who is
your tip to win it?
With Rooney you got a chance of doing well, maybe even the quarter
finals if you are lucky. Brazil and Argentina should be the final but
watch out for Ivory Coast.
Lastly, what does the future hold for your football career? Do you have a
message for the lads at LSAFC?
Been a steady season so far for the mighty 2s, haven't played our best
yet though, and knockouts gonna be tough but I'm confident we can win BUSA,
same with the 1sts, what a season that'd be if we both win it!!!!
A huge thanks to everybody's best friend
Nick Drew for this article.
