TOBY WEBB REVEALED
Behind Closed Doors
caught up with the LSAFC second team right-back Toby Webb. Part of the
infamous itchy and scratchy double act, Tobs gives us an insight into his life,
his friendship with Nick Drew and his views on the
football world...

I believe you represented Kent, what can you tell me about your time
there?
Playing and captaining my county was a great achievement, playing with so
many quality players, most of which are now playing professional football
was a big honour. Captaining the side to the National Cup final at Notts
County's ground was a special moment, although our keeper, now playing at
Gillingham got sent off in the 2nd minute, we played well and were unlucky
to lose in extra time.
According to your profile you also played for Bearsted can you shed any
light on that for us?
Bearsted was a great club. Although they are a small side they have had
some tremendous players over the years who could have played at a much
higher level, but the team spirit and the managers all the way through the
ages made a lot of us want to stay there. Myself, Graham Andrews, Olly
Freeman and now Alan Mackle have all played for the Bears.
Rhys tells me you're still after your first Loughborough goal, do you have
any match-day superstitions you could change or better?
Ha ha ******!!! ... truth is I couldn't hit a barn door with a
banjo!!! Some of the off the ball movement I make is of the highest
standard but just can't finish it! I'll just continue to set up all his
goals I suppose! Besides, I am a right back!
What is the highest achievement in your career so far?
Probably getting to the national cup final for Kent or scoring at the
Valley against Bayer Leverkusen u18's in the last minute and a team
Klinsmann dive in-front of the German dugout!!
And which is your most memorable game for Loughborough?
I look forward to every Wednesday, especially the home games because
playing on such nice pitches is a real privilege. Probably the most
memorable game was my first, although only a friendly, I personally had a
good debut and the players I was playing with made me realise what a great
three years of football were in prospect.
Who is your best friend in LSAFC (not including Nick Drew)?
There's so many quality lads here and I get on with most people but I
would have to say Rhys is my best mate, he made me realise Welsh people
were ok!

Can you tell me some gossip on the second team? Who is the team joker and
have you any tales that you can tell us?
There's a few characters in the 2s which is why I love it! Rhys Jones
is mental and makes everyone laugh, and dolly!!! Got to mention Bradley's
hat and MASSIVE Barbados jacket thing!!
Which team do you support?
The Gunners
Who is your childhood hero and why?
Ray Parlour, Martin Keown. Two of the few players who you can rely on
to give 100% week in week out.
How do you think England will fair in the world cup this summer? Who is
your tip to win it?
England have got every chance, all of our players are at the right age
and if we avoid injury and nerves in the big games then I've got a feeling
we will do it.
Lastly, how has this season gone for you so far? what does the future hold
for LSAFC, can we win it?
The teams are still far from settled, once the group games are over
and we have a settled squad, I think we will have a better squad than last
year so I'm aiming to go all the way this year.
A huge thanks to Webby for this article.
